Welcome to NOLA MEDZONE

Public and private investment in New Orleans' burgeoning biomedical development, including the new Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and University Medical Center, is an opportunity for this city to emerge from the shadows of Katrina and take our place as one of the nation's premier medical centers. One that provides world-class healthcare and medical training that can compete with other biomedical/healthcare facilities around the nation and the world. Imagine a state-of-the-art VAMC attracting world-renowned researchers and doctors, married into a rich architectural landscape of historic structures located in a revitalized downtown New Orleans.

Throughout its history, New Orleans has been the gateway to many types of industry: food, music, culture and energy; now is the time to open that gate wider and position this great city as the gateway to the finest medical care and research, which together with our universities will provide the foundation of New Orleans' new knowledge-based economy.

The clustering of like industries, such as the future Louisiana Cancer Research Center and the planned BioInnovation Center within the downtown medical district will result in more than 6,000 jobs with a $1.26 billion annual impact. VA Medical Center alone will create approximately 2,000 jobs. The creation of high paying jobs and partnerships with Greater New Orleans Biosciences Economic Development District (GNOBEDD), the Downtown Development District (DDD) and other economic development organizations, will help intensify and strengthen downtown revitalization efforts.

We must look to healthcare not just for now, but for the future-providing the best medical training for the next generation of doctors and researchers, creating jobs and growing the economy of the city we love.
